A favourite helmet is like an old friend; it's taken a few hits for you, has your back and makes you look good.

"Old Purple" is one of those sturdy, sentimental pieces of river gear that's been kayaking as long as I have. Sure, there are more stylish lids, and more comfortable and protective, but to paddle without Purple would be like paddling naked.
