Another One Bites The Dust

First it was M.A.C.K. Fest and now Gullfest. It seems as though this may be the year of cancelled paddling festivals after another festival weekend is cancelled due to low water levels.

Events organizers made the tough decision to cancel the festival two weeks prior to the event.

Gullfest would under normal water levels, take place at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in Minden Ontario, on the Canada day weekend.

Scheduled events would typically include races, and freestyle events, for all ages, skill levels and disciplines of recreational white water paddling as well as clinics, for all skill levels.

Gullfest was scheduled for July 3-4 this year and strangely enough Lower Madawaska River experienced fairly high water levels this past weekend compared to the typically low levels so far this season.

Although Ontario has seen a dry spring and low water levels early in the paddling season summer seems to be bringing it's fair share of rain which will hopefully result in average water levels for the remainder of the summer paddling season.
