Half The Paddle Twice The Woman

This summer will mark the 5th annual gathering of the 7 Sisters Canoe Club on July 17th and 18th at Bonnet Rouge on the Gatineau River near Maniwaki, Quebec.

In May 2006 a group of passionate and visionary whitewater enthusiasts launched an initiative to unite and encourage women to become more confident and skilled paddlers and the 7 Sœurs/Sisters bilingual women’s canoe club was born.

The primary objectives of this initiative were to strengthen the influence of female paddlers within the North American canoe community and to encourage women to be more confident on whitewater.

“Nearly five years later we are happy to report that there are now more women paddling solo canoes on rivers of increasing difficulty (CIII-CIV-CV).

We are thrilled that we have played a role in expanding whitewater paddling beyond its traditional clique”, said Carole Trottier.

To celebrate the 7 Sœurs/Sisters has set itself the challenge of uniting the largest number of female paddlers to date from all regions of Quebec, Ontario and beyond.

“We are inviting all female whitewater enthusiasts, of all levels of ability, to come and celebrate the joy, confidence and sense of well-being that whitewater paddling has to offer,” said Trottier.

For this 5th Anniversary Edition, the 7 Sœurs/Sisters’ official partner Esquif, manufacturer and designer of the best and most innovative canoes in North America, is building a special edition of its best-selling Zephyr: a white, woman’s cut boat sporting the beautiful 7 Sœurs/Sisters logo.

This boat will be offered via silent auction at this year’s gathering.

The 7 Sœurs/Sisters’ 5th annual celebration will take place at Bonnet Rouge on the Gatineau River on July 17th and 18th.

To all the women who have joined us over the past 4 years, we look forward to celebrating this important anniversary with you.
